A.C. (Carla) Hoetink is politiek historica en hoogleraar-directeur van het Documentatiecentrum Nederlandse Politieke Partijen van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Zij is deskundige op het terrein van de moderne vertegenwoordigende democratie. Zij heeft een bijzondere belangstelling voor de werking van politieke instituties – van parlement, politieke partij en sociale beweging – en hun (botsende) opvattingen van ‘goede politiek’. Ze richt zich hierbij hoofdzakelijk op Nederland in de 20e en 21e eeuw, al dan niet in vergelijking met andere landen.
